This video was made as a fake
parody advert poking fun at space holidays which companies such as Virgin galactic
and XCOR Space Expeditions by theming with an 80’s inspired feel
as well as a VHS look as I though the idea of a holiday in space could have
been an 80’s B-movie. The footage was filmed on a green screen in a windy environment
however I used the movement of the screen to imply that the space background
was fake like the character was dreaming and the dream could be blown away at
any moment. During the video I had the drawn rocket ship get destroyed by a UFO,
I decided to add this to add to both the theme of a B-movie and the idea that a
holiday in space is quite dreamlike, so anything could happen. The floating
palm trees were also included to add to the holiday theme, they were originally
filmed against a screen, so they would have had movement from the wind however
the footage was unusable due to how it was filmed so I instead used a product
image of the inflatable palm tree.
The original idea for this
short was to have the character take holidays in strange places such as a dark
swamp or cave doing different activities in each location such as reading or
sleeping however this was changed to the space holiday advert to give it more meaning,
this idea also gave me for freedom for strange events to happen as we know
little of space and what it contains.
This was also another idea I had, the video was going to be joke about video editing where the holiday theme would have represented waiting for aspects such as rendering, exporting etc. the background is the stock media pending image found in Premiere pro.
My second video similar to my
previous video is a parody of television show intros, for this video I used a
mixture of my own footage with stock footage to show the decline of television
and the rise of streaming services such as ‘Amazon Prime’ and ‘Netflix’ due to
there more convenient nature and range of content, as with a regular TV you
have to plan to catch a show you want to watch, where as with streaming you can
watch what you want anytime and on a range of devices such as phone. The way I
try and convey this message is through visuals of running water to symbolise the
streaming services and regular TV viewing with an old CRT (cathode ray tube) TV.
Much like my first video this
video also went under a major change as originally my idea was to have the character
jump of a building and then fall through the earth into space where he would
then be caught in a loop falling through the earth again then again through space
etc. However, this idea was changed to create the background would have been challenging
due to it having to cover space and the different layers of the earth, so I
instead changed it to something with more meaning and playing to my experience
with editing.
As I shot footage with only
falling in mind I had to find stock footage to fill in the ideas I had for the
video so in the future filming sessions I will have my actor(s) preform more
actions so I will always have more of my own footage to use.
